Exclusive to LDAA members, today saw ten anglers turn out for the event despite the wet weather!
The day started off nice and early with a hearty breakfast at Coulbourne’s Café, with a guest appearance by the Predator Legend that is Neville Fickling of The Tackle Shop, Gainsborough (Pictured above in the group photo, holding the trophy), who joined all anglers and officiators for a hearty breakfast and a brew.
After the wonderful full English breakfast, pegs were drawn and everyone headed down to the Carholme road stretch of the Fossdyke Navigational Canal.
As everyone was ready in good time, the decision to make an early start and make full use of the fair weather was made, and so ‘all in’ commenced at 8.30am.
The pace and the bar were set early on in the match, with two doubles landed within the first hour.
From then on it was a steady succession of takes during the remainder of the morning. Indeed the pace was so high, match organiser and official weighmaster Jason Blanchard was literally running between the pegs in order to conduct his weigh-in duties!
The sport slowed in the afternoon with rain commencing at 1pm... it appears that the pike, much like the anglers, didn’t enjoy the rain.
The match finished at 3:30pm, with everyone in good spirits. The group then headed to the Sun Inn, Saxilby for refreshments and prize giving.
Fish from 7oz (Luke Hutchinson) to 15lb 14oz (Mark Atkinson) made a pleasing appearance, with 14 fish in total being landed.
Everyone caught with the exception of Blue Lagoon bailiff, Adam Coxhill, who has promised to stick to Tench fishing in future. But to be fair, it was his first time pike fishing with close supervision being given by Foxy Leads owner and event sponsor, Mark Fox.
Special thanks and shout out to Match Organiser Jason Blanchard and his assistant Kev Harrison for a fantastic day!
