Email received regarding Himalayan Balsam

As you are aware, the watercourses through Lincoln are unfortunately rife with invasive species, predominantly Floating Pennywort and Himalayan Balsam.

You may also know that the time to pull Himalayan Balsam and try to reduce it is upon us! I’ve been speaking to Paige from the Lincolnshire Rivers Trust, and we have decided to organise a joint Balsam Bash in Lincoln. Whilst the primary aim of the event will be to take out as much Balsam as we can, we also hope that it will be a starting point for volunteers to better identify Himalayan Balsam in other areas, and safely pull it out when they do identify it. Therefore, we hope to have as many local volunteers out with us as possible.

It would be amazing, if you could share this information with your members, and encourage them to join us.

However! because we have both got jam-packed calendars this summer, the only date both Paige and I could make was during the week - Wednesday 6th of July to be specific.

We plan to meet at 10am at Boultham Park Café, Boultham Park, Rookery Lane, Lincoln, LN6 7PQ. There is parking by St Helens Church, off Hall Drive, please use the guide attached to find your way to the café: http://www.boulthampark.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Park-Map-and-Guide.pdf

From there we will walk to the area we plan to bash (the stretch between Dixon Street and Altham Terrace). We plan to finish around 1pm.

If you need any more information, please let me know!

Best wishes,
