THE ALMOST JOHN SMALL MEMORIAL - author, John Small himself......

A good turnout of 20 odd anglers all expecting a rock hard River Trent, it didn’t disappoint them as most failed to trouble the scales man!

A big thanks to Gary Thompson building services for sponsorship of the trophies and Clyde Inglis for his sponsorship of the golden peg, he looked quite worried when end peg at Laughterton was pulled out but then quickly realised that Jon Hackney drew it and he knew he could keep his money safely tucked up in his wallet.

On to the fishing and as expected it was tough going the top 3 weights all made up of a single Barbel.

3rd place went to Gareth Davies who after resting his swim for most of the match and walking the equivalent of a marathon managed to snare a 4lb fish as he was packing up.

2nd place went to Neil Parkinson who had spent his time well at the draw, cadging enough pellets for the next couple of seasons, then went on to fish a maggot feeder for a fine specimen of 9lb 10oz.

1st place went to Chris White, who after a mid-match beer must have felt a bit giddy and decided to put half a tin of meat on the hook. This was rewarded with a absolutely cracking fish of 13lb 4oz, worthy of winning any match, well done mate.

Match Winner, Chris White, 13lb 40z.

Other winner’s was 4th placed Clyde Inglis who’s first venture out of the season has seen him win more than Graham Green has all season.

Section winners were Jon Hackney by double default with 1lb 1/2 oz.

Malc Firmstone who fished 4 oscillating maggots on a small size 12 hook to a fine 0.22 line to take a roach of 2oz much to the amazement of Paul Cannon.

Paul Kozyra won his section with 3 fish for 1lb 4oz, it was quite an achievement for Paul to get to the right peg considering he went to the wrong cafe for the draw then the wrong pub for the results!

The final section went to Andy Lewis who fished a brilliant match to have his number drawn out the hat.

Had a great laugh in the pub after the match a big thanks to everyone who fished you made my day.

A special thanks to Jon Hackney and Rylan 'fisherthem' for running the match.
