Under 16s Fishing Unsupervised

While we are delighted to see an influx of children under the age of 16 finding a passion within angling, it has become known to the LDAA committee that a recurring theme is happening of under 16s angling by themselves across all our venues.

As an angling association that feels very strongly about getting children into angling, we have rules in place which stipulate that children under 16 MUST be supervised by a responsible adult, and the adult should be sat besides the junior. This rule is non-negotiable as safety is paramount. We like to see kids enjoying a day's fishing but our sport that we all love comes with risks that we are all familiar with.

If you have a child or know of a child that fishes on their own, we'd appreciate it if you have a word with them about this and relay the obvious dangers that come with fishing.

If under 16's keep getting caught fishing by themselves or with a group of friends that are also under the age of 16, then the LDAA may have to take disciplinary action and potentially suspend or revoke the membership of the junior. We must stress that this isn't the action that we want to take, but safety comes first.

Under 16s who have a strong passion for angling can take advantage of some top-quality coaching from the Lincolnshire Junior Angling Academy (LJAA). From classroom-based teachings to learning the art of watercraft on commercials and natural venues, the fully-qualified coaches at LJAA would be more than happy to welcome any interested junior anglers.
